Coaching

As a kid, Jazmine ran cross-country and found she had a knack for pushing her limits, competing and a pure passion for running! Running has been a mainstay in her life for maintaining physical and mental health.

Since 2019, Jazmine has had an insatiable hunger to learn about training and coaching. With her background in biology providing a framework, completing numerous courses, writing many articles, and being dedicated to the continuous pursuit of education, the learning never stops. Through her understanding of trail and ultra running needs, she successfully coached herself to her breakout performances by winning Canyons 100k with a course record, placing 4th at CCC UTMB, and running the second fastest women’s time on the UTCT 100k course (second after Courteny Dauwalter:).

Jazmine is not your typical trail, ultra, and mountain running coach. Her unique, holistic approach to working with athletes has been developed through her experiences as an athlete working with coaches. It always felt like something was missing!

She has high standards for communication and trust-building to foster strong coach-athlete relationships. Her programming is specific to each athlete and is for humans (not robots!). What gets the athlete motivated? How are they driven to success? What are their values? Are the foundational health needs of the athlete met? How can we grow your self-efficacy and belief in yourself as an athlete? Jazmine wants to know!

The five pillars of training are woven into training.

  • Training (running, strength training, cross training).

5 Pillars of Training for Running

Jazmine believes in the five pillars of Training for Running to provide integrative, holistic coaching to her athletes.

  • An integrative running, strength, biomechanics, and cross-training program custom-designed for each athlete’s goals, pursuits, and lifestyle and healthy progression and long-term running.

  • Guidance for metabolic efficiency training, nutrition periodization, supplements, accelerating recovery, race nutrition, female cyclical nutrition, and assistance on adopting a healthy relationship with food.

  • Adaptive training takes into account energy increases and decreases. This includes the overall training load, all sources of stress, fatigue, burnout, hormones, sleep, mental health and illness.

  • Support is provided for attaining proper recovery, adaptation, mental wellness, lifestyle balance, and sleep to prevent injury, illness, and burnout.

  • Training the mind for grit, positivity, confidence, awareness, and self-efficacy using games, tools, healthy performance standards, 3 types of goals and ongoing guidance.

Testimonials

"Working with Jazmine has been the key I was looking for to unlock an exciting, balanced, and challenging training routine. Before being coached by Jazmine, I would run the same routes at the same pace with the same mindset day after day! Now, I incorporate new routes, interval training, mindset games, and strength sessions into each week. She's so knowledgeable and able to answer my many, many questions about race schedules, nutrition, injury prevention, and rehab. There's also nothing more inspiring than seeing your coach crossing the finish line and winning international races! Work with her! You won't regret it."

  • "I first came to Jazmine feeling a bit defeated. I was a full-time nursing school student with a fresh hamstring tear. I had been an ultra runner in the past, and when I reached out to her, I could only run at most 4-5km without limping back to my house just to spend another few hours at a desk studying. Spring was approaching, and I was looking for a way to get myself back into spending hours on dirt trails and mountain exploration. So, I committed to a sports physiotherapist and a trail coach to hold me accountable.

In many ways, I have to commend Jazmine for not only holding me accountable for my training program but also for the maintenance of my mental health. Many athletes can likely empathize with the frustrations and loss of identity that often accompanies an injury — it can stop you dead in your tracks, and there’s a period of mourning and longing that often needs coaching through. Jazmine helped me work through the sufferfest of that injury. As an athlete herself, she validated my frustrations yet reminded me to celebrate the small progressions and that my goals were attainable. Even when running 8km was pushing my limits, I felt like a warrior under her support.

As I now work full time as an RN in the emergency department, switching between 12-hour days and nights, Jazmine can adapt my training program to the highs and lows of shift-work (and perhaps my often stubborn ways) to maintain a program that keeps me healthy while gaining strength. I am now running ultra distances again for fun runs with friends and races, and, more importantly, I’m enjoying my long days out on the trails. I ran Squamish 50 miles last summer with a healthy body and mind, and this year I’ve signed up for both days of the 50/50. Unfortunately, my spring race fell through, but we are working on other goals.

I’m not sure she even realizes how much her coaching my running has positively impacted many other areas of my life. She is an inspiring athlete and a powerful influence as she carries positive energy and approachable means of connecting with her athletes. I feel genuinely strong, inspired and capable of testing my abilities. Jazmine has helped me get my grit back. "

  • "Working with Jazmine over the past 2 years has been a game changer in my running. I’ve always loved running but have never been able to make much progress - always feeling like I’ve hit a plateau and getting hung up on injuries.

Jazmine has an intuitive ability of working with the athlete to find the essential balance between pushing hard and allowing enough time for recovery. One of the things I’ve benefited from is her knowledgeable way of working through injuries and tailoring the plan to fit the specific needs of the runner whether that be modifying the plan mid-week, creative cross-training alternatives as well as varied and detailed strength and rehab workouts. With her encouragement, proficiency and patience to work through injuries with me I’ve come out more resilient and strong. She is very attentive with regular check-ins and puts a lot of care into what she does. She leverages strength training, rehab alongside varied running workouts to create a balanced and effective plan. You can tell she has done her research along with sharing her real experience as a professional athlete. I feel very taken care of in my training and feel confident to trust my valued time to her. Since I’ve been training with Jazmine, I’ve done many things that I never thought I’d be able to do!"

  • There is so much I love about running and toeing the line at various events. Up until 3 years ago I was running regularly and racing events and enjoying it all and somehow, I stopped, just kind of fell away from it. I tried to make my personal ‘come back’ this previous summer but I found it hard, I felt slow and I was unmotivated and often felt that I was kidding myself when thinking I could potentially get back to the speeds and distances I used to enjoy. I had my first DNF in a race and was seriously questioning what I was doing. I decided to reach out to Jazmine as I didn’t want to give up on my goals and seven months later I am so happy that I did.

Working with Jazmine has really helped me remember why I got into running in the first place and I hold that on the days that I really do not want to put on my running shoes and get out the door. She is adaptable as needed, relaxed and extremely approachable. I’m always impressed by the knowledge she holds on many aspects of the sport from injury rehab and prevention, to nutrition and mindset. She is great at helping me focus on the bigger picture and highlights the importance of a healthy strong body which is translating into me actually doing my strength work 😊. As an athlete at her level she obviously has some serious lived experience, which I think is invaluable in a coach.

I think what I enjoy most about working with Jazmine is that she is fully in your corner and invested in your well being. She offers advice that she feels will benefit you in a very genuine way and you know that she is actively working with you to achieve your goals. I broke my collarbone a few months back and Jazmine was great, she had solid advice to guide me along the way and worked with me to help me stay motivated and on track to complete my first 100km race in many years.

Through working with Jazmine I have found motivation to run and train in ways that I haven’t previously. I also have the confidence to push myself harder and the curiosity to see what physical and mental barriers I can move through.
